Ordinary Signs of post 9/11 by Joao Padua

A dialectic narrative of events that have emerged since September 11 2001, where the protagonists are the very "spaces" that have born witness to these happenings. Likewise, it’s an attempt to present a photographic typology capable of provoking reflection on the importance of these episodes and to question the values of our democracies and the transparency of its institutions.
In a move away from the logic of a snapshot, the photos are taken well after the event took place. Joao Padua believes that photographing these sites in this way strips them of the actions to which they are linked, while keeping them charged with the indelible traces of the events.
Regarding the practical aspects of the project, the photographer is researching newspaper stories and articles on events directly related to post 9/11, on terrorist activities and the fight against terrorism. After an initial selection, he carries out more in depth research of the chosen event and prepare a visit to the site in question.
