Shanghai Youth by Daniele Mattioli

First the confrontation with death brought Shen Wan back to live. An accident, a stay in hospital and finally cure for drug addiction. After that came painful emptiness, which this beautiful young woman is filling now with furious, barbarian words. The Chinese government is shocked and her books forbidden. Underneath the pseudonym Mian Mian she is writing about prostitutes, junkies and the never ending nights of Shanghai. She tells about the China, that doesn’t exist in the official jargon. The godless Shanghai which already existed and now is getting rediscovered. The young, wild China, that is turning night to day, getting high on drugs and loves the consumption.
