Barking Mad! - The Rising Popularity of Pedigree Dogs in China by Philip Gostelow

I watch with curiosity the elegant clientele arriving and departing from the Zoo veterinary clinic and grooming parlour near People’s Square, central Shanghai. Amazed at the number and variety of breeds of dog, I ask one customer, a Mrs. Fu, if I could photographer her dog. She excitedly lifts little Fefe, a Chinese Xi Shi, and trusts her forward proudly while I take aim with my camera. She politely excuses herself as husband and son slide into their metallic grey BMW, preparing the way for the cradled Fefe to be whisked off into the inner city sunset.
