Stasi Museum by Fausto Giaccone

The Ministerium für Staatssicherheit (Ministry for State Security)commonly known as the Stasi was the main security and intelligence organization of the DDR. Headquarters of the Stasi were a colossal complex in Berlin Lichtenberg and several smaller complexes throughout the city. Regarded as one of the most forceful secret agencies in the world, the Stasi's motto was"Schild und Schwert der Partei" (Shield and Sword of the Party), and was directly affiliated to the Socialist Unity Party of East Germany. After the fall of the Wall, the former headquarters of the Stasi were transformed into a museum. Its prisons, in Berlin Hohenschönhausen, stand today as a memorial site.
