Ruginesti Village by Dana Popa
Romania has joined the European Union in January 2007. Major changes will happen inside the country. Five hundred years old village of Ruginesti is representative for the whole rural life of the country. It lies within the hills of the Romanian Carpathians, only thirty kilometers away from the closest city where the price of the land is already aligned to European standards. Here, one hundred and eleven families spin a frozen in time lifestyle, the same way their great great grandfathers did. Only the elderly and young children remained in the village. Every single household has a relative working abroad.
The images here show a lifestyle that has survived hundreds of years. They depict people of Ruginesti in their natural habitat, during important fragments of their daily life as it was before the great acceptance of Romania into EU.
