Dora Akunyili - Africa's medicine woman by Paolo Woods
Though she comes running into her office Dora Akunyili fails to surprise her visitor, who has been waiting there for two hours. Various warning sounds precede her arrival: squealing tyres as her armed convoy enters the courtyard, clicking heels on the stairs, and the howl of a metal detector as her guards pass the gate. She finally lands in her chair, out of breath, but larger than life and very determined. Akunyili is the head of Nigeria's national agency for food and drug administration and control (Nafdac), responsible in particular for combating counterfeit drugs, risking her life in the process.
