The Face of the Nation by Andrei Liankevich
The story started when Alexander Lukashenko, president of Belarus, arrived as a guest to the singer Irina Dorofeeva's studio and in May made her "the face of country". After a while the Belarussian enterprises of «Kommunarka» and «Slodych» began to design boxes of candies, sweets and marshmallows with the singer's portrait. In the towns and cities you can see portraits of Dorofeeva on big boards and posters along highways and in the subway stations. But the special mission of Irina are annual concerts around the country. Especially during the harvest time she sings concerts for tractor drivers, combine operators and mechanization experts straight in the field. At the moment the singer has visited literally every village allover Belarus, where halls were bigger than for 250 people.
