Taikang Lu Shops by Philip Gostelow

The area ‘Lane 248, Tai Kang Road’ is rapidly becoming increasingly popular with both local and overseas visitors, as awareness grows of the extension into lane 248 (since September 2006) of the previous well established lane 210 Tai Kang Road. Although there are few similar examples in Shanghai to lane 248, where individual home owners have directly rented their homes out to small business owners, I am confident that the area will continue to grow in popularity and scale, and that local businesses will thrive – eventually – if they can survive the initial months/ year (which several have not).
