Ferdinand Schmutzer - A Photographic Discovery by Ferdinand Schmutzer

An unique discovery of a new photographic work of the renowned Viennese engraver and etcher Ferdinand Schmutzer who lived at the turn of the 19th century. Nobody knew until 2001 that he has worked after photographs and they have found this incredible treasure of completely unpublished photographs which includes also portraits of Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Richard Strauss, Arthur Schnitzler, Karl Lueger, Pablo Casals, Fritz Kreisler, Felix Salten as well as the last two great potentates of Europe, Kaiser Karl I and Kaiser Wilhelm II. The portraits are primarily of personalities from the arts, science, politics and business who had a decisive effect on the cultural and social life of Austria until the end of the monarchy. But Ferdinand Schmutzer was also travelling to Holland, Italy, Provence, Hungary and other places in Europe as well as photographs of the Viennese society.
