American Influence in Kyrgyzstan by Igor Starkov
These photographs are about the influence the United States and American culture exert in Kyrgyzstan, a small Central Asian nation which is strategically important due to its geography and natural resources and stirs a lot of interest on the part of the US.
Kyrgyzstan is a former Soviet republic located in Central Asia. It borders Kazakhstan in the north, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in the south-east and China in the east and south-east. The country has significant water and hydroelectric resources while a large portion of industries situated in neighbouring ex-Soviet countries depends in many ways on electricity supplies from Kyrgyzstan. The country’s geography is another trump card as it is very close to Afghanistan and China. It takes only a couple of hours to reach Afghanistan by air, and the country has a common border with China. The country to which the Kyrgyz government and people are loyal would have a very good military and cultural foothold to expand its influence on the entire Central Asia.
