'Pavarsia' means 'independence' in Albanian. Babies portrayed in this series were born on February 17, 2008, the day of Independence of Kosovo. For this reason, most are named Pavarsia, Pavarsim, Pavarsi, Pavarsimi. Kosovo, a landlocked province in the Republic of Serbia with a predominantly Albanian population, declared its independence on February 17, 2008 following almost 10 years of UN administration over the region. Despite continued strong opposition from Serbia and its historical ally Russia, Kosovo's independence has since been recognized by over 50 countries worldwide.
