Dreaming of Tibet by Sandra Weller
In 1959 Tenzin Gyatso, the14th Dalai Lama and other government principals fled to exile in India. As the political and religious leader of the Tibetans, the Dalai Lama founded a Government-in-Exile in Dharamsala. Until today every year more than 1000 Tibetans follow him. They flee their home country, which is now part of China and called “Tibetan Autonomous Region”. The Tibetans are trying to preserve their culture in Exile. They built schools, temples and monasteries. Many young Tibetans don’t have any future perspective. They have an education, but no passport. If you ask them about their future plans many will respond: “I wait until Tibet will be free and return to my home country.” More than 130 000 Tibetans living in exile today.
