American Chaos by Paolo Woods
In the spring of 2004 the photographer Paolo Woods and the journalist Serge Michel travelled the dangerous roads of Iraq, from Basra to Mosul. The journey took them into a country torn apart by hatred. From inside a rebel stronghold to the back of an American Humvee, from the bombings of Karbala to a country wedding, across Shiite territory on the edge of revolt and with the Sunnis of Falluja who began by wanting to kill them. Thanks to this extraordinary immersion into a country at war we get a clear understanding of how the Americans, having won the war, are en route to losing the peace. Pax Americana has become American chaos.
