Bilbao by Fausto Giaccone
The first bridge on the river Nervión had already been built when, in 1300, Don Diego López de Haro proclaimed the creation of the "población y Villa”, henceforth to be known as "Puerto de Bilbao”. The next construction for ensuring safe passage across the river is to be shaped like a dragon-fly. To be completed by the end of 2002, this bridge will be in a high-resist alloy that has never been used in this kind of application before. Thanks to this 140-metre walk-on-water, one will be able to reach the Deusto university area from the up-and-coming Abandoibarra. And vice versa, of course.
