Soneva Kiri is the new eco-resort open in December 2009 in Koh Kood (Thailand) by Six Senses (www.sixsenses.com). It’s a top eco chic destination; the 42 villas are built with wood from plantation (no tropical wood is used) and – to reduce the impact - are integrated in a vast area of a bay among the mangroves and the jungle (75% of Koh Kood is still covered by primary forest); wasted water is used to irrigate the gardens; plastic is not allowed (water is served in recycled glass bottles, the packaging is reduced and anyway is only made with recycled paper); the transports in the resort are only by buggy (electric car). Beside this aspect, a glamorous design meets a top luxury; elegance, huge space, private swimming pool, top service, a smart playground for children, an interesting library, excellent food, gorgeous spa treatments. The aim are the seven stars. Eco chic is possible? Ecology can match with posh? That’s difficult to judge, but we have few doubts when so much space, energy and materials are dedicated to the fun of such a few people.
